Directive 8020 Launches May 12

Mark your calendars: Supermassive Games has confirmed that Directive 8020 arrives on PlayStation 5 on May 12, 2026, and the studio isn’t coming quietly. Alongside the release date, they’ve detailed a suite of PS5 Pro enhancements that look like a genuine showcase for what the hardware can do.

The game puts you aboard the Cassiopeia, a deep-space vessel on a mission to Tau Ceti f. The catch? An alien organism that can perfectly mimic the crew is hunting you, and paranoia quickly becomes your primary survival tool.

This is Supermassive’s bread and butter. The British studio behind Until Dawn, The Quarry, and the The Dark Pictures Anthology has spent over a decade refining the art of cinematic horror with branching narratives and gut-punch decisions. Directive 8020 looks like their most technically ambitious entry yet.

On PS5 Pro, the game runs with advanced ray tracing. Dynamic shadows, realistic light bouncing off metal corridors, ice refracting coldly, emergency strobes flaring against bulkheads. The team also leaned hard into DualSense haptics: haptic feedback pulses through choices and tool use, and distant crew members crackle through the controller’s speaker (a nod to Supermassive’s own legacy of tense “Don’t Move” sequences from Until Dawn).

In a game where two identical crew members can be staring you down and only one is human, smooth performance and crisp visuals aren’t just technical features, they’re part of the horror.

Pre-orders are open now on PlayStation Store. Directive 8020 launches May 12.
