If you’ve been missing the kind of gripping, choice-driven narratives that defined the heyday of Telltale Games, then the story of Dispatch and the studio behind it, AdHoc, will be a familiar but thrilling new chapter. Their debut game has been a runaway success, but according to its narrative director, the story you played isn’t the whole story.

The Workplace Superhero Comedy That Struck Gold

Dispatch is a superhero workplace comedy where you play as Robert Robertson, formerly the hero Mecha Man, who is forced to take a job as a dispatcher for a team of dysfunctional, reformed supervillains after his powerful suit is destroyed . The game blends narrative choices with strategic elements, as players must manage their team’s quirks and deploy the right heroes to emergencies across the city .

Released episodically in October and November 2025, the game sold over one million copies in its first 10 days . It features an all-star cast including Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as the protagonist, Jeffrey Wright, and Laura Bailey, alongside popular content creators like Jacksepticeye and MoistCr1TiKaL .

The Creative Force: Pierre Shorette and AdHoc Studio

To understand Dispatch, you have to look at the team behind it. AdHoc Studio was founded in 2018 by industry veterans from Telltale Games, Ubisoft, and Night School Studio. Among the co-founders is Pierre Shorette, who serves as the company’s Chief Creative Officer and the Narrative Director for Dispatch .

Shorette’s resume includes some of Telltale’s most acclaimed titles. He was a writer and narrative designer on The Walking DeadThe Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands . This history is key to understanding AdHoc’s mission: to “carry the interactive narrative torch into the future”. The studio was formed by developers who were the creative force behind Telltale’s biggest hits, making Dispatch a spiritual successor to that legacy of storytelling .

Teasing the Unseen: Cut Content and Future Possibilities

In a recent interview on Skill Up Youtube channel, Shorette, along with co-founder Nick Herman, opened up about the studio’s future and its past work. When asked if AdHoc would focus on original IP or existing franchises, Shorette expressed openness to both, specifically mentioning they would consider working with “white whale kind of IPs” .

He pointed to the success of The Wolf Among Us at Telltale as the model, noting that it was a way to add to a franchise and bring in new audiences who might not have picked up the original Fables comics . This philosophy of enhancing existing IPs with a unique tone could hint at their future projects.

More tantalizingly, the interview also touched upon AdHoc’s work on the The Wolf Among Us 2. Herman revealed that the team at AdHoc had written an entire season and were deep into development on the sequel in partnership with the new Telltale Games. However, the collaboration fell apart. “We weren’t running the project,” Herman stated. “We couldn’t wait around and do nothing, so we had to move on to Dispatch to keep the studio moving” .

He added a compelling tease for fans, saying, “But if one day we were able to make the thing that we wrote and were in the middle of directing, we think people would love it”. This suggests that AdHoc’s complete vision for The Wolf Among Us 2 remains unseen, much like the cut content from Dispatch.

What’s Next for AdHoc?

With the massive success of Dispatch, the future is bright for the studio. They have officially partnered with Critical Role Productions to develop a video game set in the popular world of Exandria, which will follow a similar narrative-driven template as Dispatch. Critical Role’s CEO Travis Willingham, who also voices a character in Dispatch, was so impressed by a demo of the game that he initiated the partnership .

As for a potential Dispatch Season 2, while not yet confirmed, Pierre Shorette has said the team would “have to think about” further content in the universe, giving fans a glimmer of hope. For now, the team is focused on their new projects, carrying the lessons and stories – both seen and unseen – from their past into the future of interactive narrative.
