At approximately day 15 of the Fading Embers DLC story a player is tasked with fixing a truck that will be used for escaping. One of the things that requires fixing is engine and in order to fix it, the crew needs car parts that can be found at the Car Workshop. The workshop’s owner, a shady mechanic Crow, initially demands Anja’s Necklace in exchange for the parts. Trading necklace is the straightforward option, however, players can instead obtain parts for free with a clever distraction, keeping a valuable family heirloom and unlocking Diary: Fool the Crow trophy/achievement.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Initiate conversation with Crow
Enter the Car Workshop and speak to Crow. He will demand Anja’s Necklace in exchange for the engine parts. Decline or ignore the offer. Don’t leave yet. - Wait for a prompt
Crow will decide to smoke. Follow him outside. - Have a chat
Listen to him brag about his car, Bertie. This unlocks the interaction option on the car. - Tamper with Bertie
Once Crow returns inside, approach Bertie and steal/rig the car battery - Report the “theft” to distract Crow
Return inside and speak to Crow again. Inform him that you saw someone tampering with/rigging his car (or trying to steal from Bertie). Crow will panic and immediately run outside to check on Bertie. - Steal the engine parts
While Crow is outside, interact with his stash and take the car parts. - Leave
Directly grabbing the engine parts from Crow’s stash without the distraction will cause him to immediately confront the player. This may lock you into trading, fighting, or killing him, potentially missing the achievement and altering story tone.
