Shambler

Overview

Shamblers are former Walkers who have entered the advanced stages of decomposition. They are withered husks of their former selves, in a far more degraded state than even a regular Walker. Their skin has lost most of its colour, any blood or bites have dried up, and most hair has fallen out. The skin is tight around their bones, particularly in the chest area. Any clothes they are wearing are heavily soiled and damaged, bleached and tattered by sun and rot.

Shamblers are very slow and, as the name suggests, shamble around their immediate area with whatever strength they can muster. They have no real aims and do not actively hunt for prey, instead they shuffle around aimlessly. When they do manage to spot a survivor, or are more often alerted to one by a nearby zombie, they shamble toward them at their top speed – a slow walk – and attempt to claw, grapple, or bite. They are incredibly weak and will die in just a few hits from most weapons. Their frailty is so pronounced that their attacks can actually maim their own arms. Despite all of this, Shamblers can be as dangerous as any other common zombie when encountered in large numbers.

Any elemental effect works well against them, and they have no concept of hazard avoidance, they can easily be led into environmental traps such as electrified water or fire puddles. Firearms are generally a waste of ammo given their low health, though automatic weapons can efficiently clear groups with headshots. Bleed damage is the only approach worth avoiding, as their desiccated bodies offer resistance to it, though given how quickly they die to anything else, it matters little in practice.

Where to Find Them

Shamblers are among the most common zombie types in the game and are found virtually everywhere across Los Angeles from the very start. They spawn in large numbers in open areas, parking lots, and residential streets throughout Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, and the Pier.
