Overview
The Shocking Runner is a variant of the Runner found all across Los Angeles. Alongside Shocking Walkers, Shocking Runners are former electricians who had their bodies exposed to electromagnetic fields at the time of turning. This has re-engineered their bodies at a cellular level, making them highly charged with electricity. This constantly subjects the gadgets on their toolbelts to high voltage, resulting in large explosions of electricity.
Shocking Runners wear a utility uniform consisting of a grey long-sleeve shirt, dark and light grey utility pants, a green high-visibility vest with white strips, a black utility belt with tool pouches containing various electrical tools such as wire, screwdrivers and a multimeter, and brown boots. There is slight charring of parts of their clothes and bodies due to the frequent electrical discharges they produce.
Shocking Runners behave in the same manner as normal Runners, they are highly aggressive and fast, capable of easily cornering players, dodging heavy attacks, and pushing players back to interrupt attacks. Their electrical charge adds a second layer of threat on top of their speed. Should they touch any water, they will immediately discharge electricity. If they remain in a pool of water for an extended period, they will discharge rapidly. This makes any waterlogged environment or the presence of a Hydration Walker nearby a potential hazard when fighting them. Crucially, once killed, the Shocking Runner’s body releases one final discharge of electricity, players should retreat from the corpse until this has happened before looting.
Shocking Runners can be turned into Crawlers if their legs are maimed. A Chem Bomb can be used to soak a Shocking Runner and cause it to discharge electricity from a distance, making it effective when they appear in groups. Sharp and bleed damage are the most reliable approach. Fire weapons bypass their immunity entirely and work well in enclosed spaces.
Where to Find Them
The first guaranteed encounter is during the story quest Kwon with the Wind in Beverly Hills, where one appears upstairs in the construction site during the rescue of Jessie. For farming, there is no guaranteed spot. In Beverly Hills, you can trigger an alarm in black SWAT van near Francesca home, there is probably a 60% chance that a shocking runner or two will spawn.
