Hydration Walker

Overview

The Hydration Walker is a variant of the Walker most often found in urban areas such as Beverly Hills and Bel-Air. They are former water carriers, vendors who sold bottled water at beaches, tourist spots, and sporting events such as marathons, caught by the outbreak while going about their rounds. They wear a white tank top with the “Water” logo and a name tag, with a large blue pressurised hydration pack strapped to their back featuring a cup holder on the side. Their shorts and sneakers vary in colour between individual zombies.

In combat they behave identically to standard Walkers, slow, aimless, and grabbing at any survivor who comes within range. What sets them apart entirely is the tank on their back. Damaging the hydration pack will cause it to explode, killing the Hydration Walker instantly and showering the surrounding area with water. This makes them one of the most tactically versatile common enemies in the game, their tank can be deliberately triggered to create a large water puddle on demand, which can then be used to electrocute nearby zombies with a shock weapon or curveball, extinguish Burning Walkers and Burning Runners, neutralise Caustic-X puddles, or set up a combo with an Electric Bomb. They can also be exploited to put out nearby fires or extinguish zombies with fire attacks.

Like all Walkers, their limbs can be maimed easily and they can be distracted with Meat Bait. Their legs are their primary weak point, reducing them to a Crawler when severed.

Where to Find Them

The first encounter is by the fence at the water treatment plant in Beverly Hills, when returning from Monarch Studios. For farming, a reliable spawn point is at the entrance of Dr. Reed’s lab in the north-east corner of Ocean Avenue, where the Mutator boss fight takes place in the story.
