Overview
The Hazmat Walker is a variant of the Walker commonly found around the Halperin Hotel and The Pier. Like Hazmat Runners and Caustic-X Walkers, they are former hazmat personnel who turned during the outbreak. They are closely linked to the CDC’s efforts to contain the infection across Los Angeles, the same personnel who were deployed to dispose of infected bodies using Caustic-X, now turned and wandering the very sites they were sent to sanitise.
They behave in the same manner as normal Walkers, slow and aimless, attempting to grab players who stray too close. Their hazmat gear makes them immune to caustic damage, while they remain vulnerable to shock and fire damage. Like other Walker variants, their legs can be maimed to turn them into Crawlers, and they can be distracted with Meat Bait.
Hazmat Walkers appear in three visual variants. The most common is a zombified CDC researcher in a white CDC-issue Level C hazmat suit with gray rubber boots, sometimes with safety goggles, rubber gloves, and a face mask. A second, less common variant is a zombified US Army soldier in an Army-issue UCP camouflage Level C hazmat suit with teal rubber boots and gloves. A third variant, encountered exclusively at SoLA, is a former Beez-B-Gone pest control employee in a light gray hazmat suit with yellow rubber boots and a red staff lanyard.
Their immunity to caustic damage makes them a particular obstacle in quest sequences involving Caustic-X pools. During the side quest The Rav-Ages of Caustic-X, Hazmat Walkers appear at the Halperin Hotel pool and cannot be killed by being kicked into it, they must be dealt with by conventional means.
Where to Find Them
The first encounter is at the Halperin Hotel pool fight. For farming, reliable spawn points are in the final corridor behind the fast travel room in Hollywood Boulevard, and in the military compound in the south-east corner of The Pier.
